AGES 13+

Through a two-hour top rope belay lesson with our qualified instructors you will learn everything you need to be comfortable with all aspects of harnessing, knots, and belaying on a top rope while using a Petzl GriGri (the only acceptable belay device at the Grotto). These skills will allow you to access many more of the climbs at both the Grotto, and other climbing gyms. Learning to belay is also a great way for parents to enjoy climbing with their kids, without having to leave the ground themselves.

Our top rope lesson includes a two-week Grotto membership, starting the day of the lesson and including rental gear for those who don't have their own (harness and shoes).

OPEN CLASS: Open up the class for up to 6 others to join - you may make a friend or two!

PRIVATE: Lesson for you and your climbing partner, at a time of your choosing.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Lesson must be booked at least 72 hours in advance.
- Participants must be 13 years of age or older.
- The class does not include the certification test, which must be completed separately, on your next visit to the Grotto.

AGES 16+

Ready to level up? Lead belaying / climbing is the most advanced form of indoor climbing, and is an invaluable skill if you plan to climb outdoors. In two three-hour sessions you will gain the knowledge and techniques needed to lead climb indoors (all about gear, belaying, catching and taking falls, clipping, and more!), and will have time to build competence and refine your skills under the instruction of our certified staff.

REQUIREMENTS:
- The lead course is intended for experienced climbers who are comfortable climbing 5.10 and higher.
- Climbers must provide their own dynamic climbing rope, climbing partner who also wants to learn to lead belay, and Petzl GriGri.
- Climbers must be at least 16 years of age and have no more than a 50lb weight difference with their partner (unless using an Ohm)
